Compared to last week, steer calves under 550 lbs sold with a lower undertone
on last week's light test, with 550-750 lb steers selling 10.00-15.00 lower,
spots 20.00 lower on the 6 weight steers, 750-800 lbs sold with a lower
undertone and three pot loads of 850-900 lbs steers traded mostly 20.00-25.00
lower. Feeder heifers weighing under 600 lbs sold with a weak to lower
undertone on a light test with last week, with 600-700 lbs trading mostly
5.00-10.00 lower. Demand was moderate on a moderate supply with overall a good
quality offering of steers and heifers. All feeder contracts closed Monday
down the limit (9.25) and all Live Cattle contracts down the 7.25 limit. The
volatility in the CME Cattle futures is making it difficult to make any
marketing decisions and the optimism has now turned to too much uncertainties.
On top of that the fed cattle market has turned much lower as buyers are
rethinking their position and approach to the market. Slaughter cows sold
steady.
