Compared to last week yearling steers sold 15.00 higher and yearling heifers
sold 3.00 to 5.00 higher. First real good test of the bawling calf market with
higher undertones noted to last week's light test. Slaughter and feeding cows
sold steady with bull 8.00 lower. Demand was moderate to good. Quite a few
bawling calves selling a few months earlier than normal due to the drought
conditions in the area. Hay prices and other feeds are relatively high to
purchase and freight will be be going up due to the sky rocketing fuel prices.
Taking the calves off the cow early will save quite a lot of feed and help the
cow gain some weight before winter.
