Compared to last week: Feeder steers and heifers traded mostly 10.00 to 20.00
higher, with the exception of 900 lb cattle which were steady. Steer and
heifer calves were sharply higher on a light test. Trading activity was
active on very good buyer demand. Quality was mixed, with the majority of the
trade consisting of plainer cattle off the short wheat. Any open cows that had
the potential to return to the country was bought to rebreed. As a result,
slaughter cows and bulls were too lightly tested for a market trend. Hot, dry,
and windy conditions have continued across the trading region. However, some
much needed rain is in the forecast over the weekend.
