Compared to last week, this week's offering of steer and heifer calves weighing
400-700 lbs were hard to compare with last week's large volume of top quality
calves that sold in large groups and part loads, but overall feeders sold with
a lower undertone. There were seven pot loads of yearling steers weighing over
750 lbs that were not tested with last weeks offering but sold with a lower
undertone as well compared to previous sales over the last several weeks.
Demand was moderate to good on a moderate offering. Fed cattle market traded
7.00 lower last week at 248.00 in all areas. Boxed-beef prices are seeing
seasonal pressure as the dog days of summer are upon us. Stick out sales
included the pot loads with 66 hd of steers weighing 789 at 381.75, 4 pot loads
weighing 904-938 lbs at 337.10-342.50 and pot load weighing 1011 lbs at 321.75.
Slaughter cows sold steady to firm.
