Missouri Direct Hay Report
Released on September 04, 2025
Much cooler weather has been a welcome relief the last couple of weeks,
however rains have been spotty and light with most producers missing
out altogether.
Following one of the dryest August on record pastures and crop conditions
have seen the impact.
As of the latest drought monitor near 94 percent of the state is now
listed as abnormally to moderately dry.
Some producers in the south would argue conditions are worse than the
monitor reflects.
There have been some reports of hay feeding and some slight concerns
with water, situations are spotty and even though everyone is seeing dryness,
conditions do have variability by traveling just a few miles one
way or the other.
Hay feeding is somewhat reflecting of stocking inventory as pastures
were exceptional though July and some producers were able to stockpile
more grass than others.
Although it wasn't reported in the crop progress report earlier this
week there has been corn harvested across the state now at very acceptable
moisture levels.
Hay movement has been mostly slow, prices are steady to weak, supplies
are heavy, and demand is light to moderate.
