Compared to the last report, Dehy alfalfa in the east sold 30.00 higher.
Ground and delivered hay in the Platte Valley and Central areas sold
steady to 10.00 higher.
Bales of hay sold fully steady to instances 20.00 higher.
Hay out west sold steady.
Demand was mostly good.
Semi loads of hay continue to head west, mostly going to out of state buyers.
Usually in September, it is very hard to sell hay as prospective buyers
are busy with fall harvest.
Not the case this year.
Hay trading has been very active since around June, as the drought out
west and fires has taken a lot of hay inventory off the shelf from
central to eastern parts of the state.
Many hay producers are hoping to have a bountiful amount of cornstalks
to bale later this fall! Looking into the future, one would have to
think what might there be left to purchase after the first of the New
Year? Coarse a lot will depend on what Mother Nature deals later with
the El Nino weather cycle we are currently in.
