Compared to last week, slaughter cows were steady and slaughter bulls were
steady to 2.00 lower. Demand was moderate on a moderate supply. The top
slaughter bull sold for 216.00/cwt. and the top slaughter cow sold for
179.00/cwt. Replacement cattle outnumbered slaughter animals with the top pair
selling for 4100.00/pair and the top bred cow selling for 3700.00/head. Much
needed rain last week helped to improve pasture conditions but growth has been
slowed by 50 degree nights. The USDA's Cold Storage report, released Friday,
reported beef was 1 percent lower than the prior month but remained 2 percent
higher than the previous year.
