Compared to last week, 400-450 lb steer calves sold mostly 10.00-13.00 higher,
with 450-500 lb and 550-600 lb steer calves trading fully steady to firm, the
bulk of the 500-550 lb steers sold mostly in pot load lots and large drafts
trading mostly 5.00-14.00 higher than last week's pot load and larger drafts,
600-700 lbs steers traded firm to 10.00 higher, with over 700 lbs selling
4.00-7.00 higher. Heifer calves weighing 400-500 lbs sold 10.00-15.00 higher,
with 500-550 lbs selling mostly in pot load lots trading with a sharply higher
undertone than last week's much lighter offering, 600-650 lbs sold firm to 5.00
higher and over 650 lbs traded with a firm to higher undertone. Demand was
very good on a heavy supply with near 20 straight loads in the offering, with
one consignment of near 900 hd of top quality feeders with good weighing
conditions in the offering. Overall Monday's sale could be one for the record
books here at Callaway as quality ran very deep and prices reaching levels not
seen here specially on the pot loads and large drafts of calves weighing from
500-650 lbs. Several stick out sales included 98 hd of steers weighing 522 lbs
at 450.00, 54 hd steers weighing 514 lbs at 454.00, 92 steers weighing 569 lbs
at 435.75, 62 steers weighing 624 lbs at 407.50, with 99 heifers weighing 540
lbs at 388.50 and 86 heifers 539 lbs at 421.25 all top quality and the list
goes on. Slaughter cows on a light offering sold mostly steady.
