Receipts were heavy this week, particularly on replacement cattle and feeder
offerings. Prolonged dry conditions across the region have forced many
producers to reduce herd numbers due to limited forage availability and, in
some areas, dwindling water supplies. Market pressure was further compounded by
another sharp drop in the feeder futures board, down 6.750 today. Seasonal
transitions also contributed to softer demand. As a result, feeder cattle
traded sharply lower, with particularly light interest in new-crop, unweaned
calves.
