Whole milk powder (WMP) prices strengthened at the bottom of the range, while 
holding steady at the top this reporting period. Processor prices increased 
from last month, but are 6 percent lower compared to year-ago levels. Last week 
WMP futures were lower across all contract periods by as much as 3.8 percent 
for September. New Zealand WMP exports increased in July, up 4 percent from 
last year and up 11 percent year-to-date. This increase came despite a 13 
percent decrease in volumes shipped to China. Exports increased by 8 percent to 
other Asian countries and 94 percent to Central America, offsetting the 
decrease to China. 

WMP prices at Global Dairy Trade (GDT) Event 411 were mostly lower, ranging 
from unchanged to down 0.6 percent for two of the four contract periods 
offering product. No product was offered for February or March. November and 
December accounted for 81 percent of total sales. Sales volumes were noticeably 
higher than Event 410 and year-earlier levels. North Asia was the top buyer, 
purchasing 51 percent of the volume, up from 50 percent at the previous auction 
but down from 53 percent a year ago. Southeast Asia/Oceania bought 24 percent 
of the volume, followed by the Middle East.
