Skim Milk Powder - Oceania

Oceania skim milk powder (SMP) prices were stable during the reporting period, 
with only a slight decrease at the bottom of the price range and no change at 
the top of the range. Production is strong as Oceania approaches the peak of 
its milk production season. Domestic prices were steady, and stable domestic 
futures prices for near-term contracts suggest demand is well met by supply. 
Export prices decreased slightly in response to downward pressure created by 
strong year-over-year growth in global milk production. 

At Global Dairy Trade (GDT) event 389, SMP price indices decreased for 
contracts with near-term delivery dates and increased for the remaining 
contracts. The indices for the November, December, and January contracts were 
down 1.5 percent, 1.2 percent, and 0.7 percent, respectively, while the indices 
for the February and March contracts were up 1.8 percent and 2.7 percent, 
respectively. No product was offered for delivery in April 2026. The volume of 
SMP sold at event 389 was below the volume sold at both event 388 and event 
365, held one year ago. The top three purchasing regions at event 389 were 
North Asia, Southeast Asia/Oceania, and the Middle East. Just over half of the 
SMP sold at event 389 was purchased by buyers in North Asia, with North Asian 
purchases up from the prior event and in line with purchases last year.

During GDT event 389 on October 7, 2025, the average price for SMP across all 
contract periods was $2,599 per metric ton, corresponding to a 0.5 percent 
decrease in the SMP price index from the prior event. The average price for the 
November contract was $2,592 per metric ton, with the November price index down

Dairy Australia recently released export data for Australia showing SMP export 
volumes in July and August 2025 totaled 22,783 metric tons, a decrease of 7.3 
percent compared to export volume totals in July and August 2024.

According to Dairy Australia, SMP production in Australia in June 2025 totaled 
11,594 metric tons, an increase of 2.3 percent compared to production totals in 
June 2024. Australian SMP production from July 2024 to June 2025 totaled 
170,714 metric tons, an increase of 4.1 percent compared to production totals 
from July 2023 to June 2024.
