Skim milk powder (SMP) prices increased at both ends of the range this 
reporting period. Processor prices continued their upward trend compared with 
both last month and last year, and Oceania SMP maintained its premium over 
European product. SMP futures were mixed across all contracts, with gains in 
June, July, and October, but declines in May and September, while August was 
steady. A major New Zealand dairy cooperative raised its 12-month SMP offering, 
adding 464 metric tons (MT) for a new total of 128,035 MT. The adjustment 
applies to the final month of the 12-month forecast. 

SMP price indices at Global Dairy Trade (GDT) Event 404 increased across all 
offered contract periods. June through September contracts were each up between 
0.2 percent to 0.4 percent, while no product was offered for October or 
November. July and August accounted for 85 percent of total sales. Total SMP 
volume sold was lower than both Event 403 and year earlier levels. Southeast 
Asia/Oceania was the leading buyer, acquiring 54 percent of available volume, 
followed by North Asia at 28 percent, then Europe. North Asia's volume 
increased from the previous event but remained below year-ago levels. No 
purchases were made by the Middle East.

Dairy Australia recently released export data for Australia showing SMP export 
volumes from July 2025 - March 2026 totaled 122,590 MT, a decrease of 1.2 
percent compared to export volume totals from July 2024 - March 2025.

At GDT Event 404 on May 19, 2026, the average SMP price index across all 
contract periods increased to $3,552/MT, a 0.2 percent increase from the prior 
event. The June contract averaged $3,650/MT, up 0.4 percent. Additional SMP
