Butter - East U.S.

Released on September 09, 2026

Butter production is trending higher, with some private-label operations
running six days per week. Cream remains ample for butter churns, while spot
transactions were down over the holiday weekend. Bulk butter continues moving
into storage, and grocers are ramping up seasonal builds. Retail demand is
stronger, as reported advertisements for 1 lb. butter increased nearly 50
percent year over year, and the average advertised price declined about 12
percent. Food service demand is expected to increase, as butter is a key
ingredient in holiday bakery items. Contacts note some buyers advanced
purchases earlier this year, which may temper demand during the holiday period.
At the time of this report, CME cash butter prices declined nearly 2 percent
compared to last week's average price. The overall butter market tone is
steady, with firming retail and cautious food-service activity.
