Dry Whey - Central U.S.

Released on June 26, 2025

The price range and mostly price series for dry whey held steady in the Central
region this week. Dry whey inventories are available, but spot purchasers
report loads that meet certain specifications or from specific manufacturers
are difficult to find. Domestic dry whey sales are somewhat muted. Export
demand for dry whey is mixed. Contacts report international prices for dry whey
are lower than domestic loads, contributing to light interest from purchasers
in some countries. Interest in dry whey from purchasers in Europe and Asia is
light as dry whey produced domestically is priced at a premium compared to
loads produced in other countries. This price difference is mitigated by
favorable freight costs to deliver loads from the Central region to Mexico,
contributing to strong demand from purchasers in the country. Spot markets for
whey protein concentrate 80% and whey protein isolate are bullish, amid strong
demand and tight inventories. Plant managers say they are utilizing available
volumes of liquid whey to run busy schedules producing these products, limiting
dry whey output. Prices for animal feed whey held steady this week. Contacts
report animal feed inventories are snug, but spot trading is light.
