Dry Whey - Central U.S.

Released on June 20, 2025

Central region dry whey prices were unchanged at the top of the range and
mostly price series this week. The bottom of the mostly price series moved
lower, while prices increased at the bottom of the range. Dry whey is available
to meet current market demands. Internationally produced dry whey is available
for lower prices than loads produced domestically. Contacts say this is
contributing to softening export dry whey interest. Domestic dry whey demand is
steady to lighter. Strong demand persists for specific brands or dry whey that
meets certain specifications and inventories for these loads remain tight.
Meanwhile, contacts report demand for more interchangeable loads of dry whey is
lighter and spot loads for these are available for purchasing. Cheesemakers
continue to run strong production schedules. Liquid whey is available for
drying, but dry whey production is limited as production schedules remain
focused on higher whey protein concentrates. The bottom of the animal feed whey
price range moved higher this week, but the top was unchanged. Contacts report
production is light, and spot inventories are tight. Demand for animal feed
whey is steady.
