Dry Whey - Central U.S.

Released on May 29, 2025

Central region dry whey prices are increasing across the price range and mostly
price series. Contacts report more volume is trading in the mid-$0.50s as
strong demand has caused spot inventories to tighten. Demand for dry whey
varies by manufacturer, but contacts say interest ranges from steady to very
strong. Spot whey inventories also vary as some manufacturers are completely
sold out of spot loads for several weeks, while others have sufficient
inventories to meet current market demands. Cheese makers are purchasing spot
milk in the Central region as low as $7-under Class III and are running strong
production schedules. Plant managers favor using liquid whey for higher whey
protein concentrate production, but dry whey output remains strong regionally.
Animal feed whey prices declined across the range this week. Demand for animal
feed whey is light, but production remains limited.
