Dry Whey - Central U.S.

Released on May 22, 2025

Both ends of the Central region dry whey price range moved higher this week and
prices increased at the bottom of the mostly price series. Domestic demand is
strong, but stakeholders say demand is particularly notable for specific
brands. Manufacturers of these brands have tight availability, so purchasers
are often paying a premium to secure spot loads. Export interest strengthened
somewhat in the last week, though some contacts suggest this demand may be
short lived due to market uncertainty. Dry whey production remains strong in
the Central region. Spot milk prices continue to trade as low as $7 under Class
III. Cheesemakers are running busy schedules leaving plenty of liquid whey
available for drying, though plant managers relay planned down time during the
upcoming holiday weekend. Spot animal feed whey markets were somewhat quiet
this week and prices were unchanged.
