Dry Whey - Central U.S.

Released on April 30, 2026

Prices for dry whey increased at the bottom of the range in the Central region.
The top of the price range and both ends of the mostly price series are
unchanged this week. Spot trading was somewhat limited this week, as many
market participants attended an industry event. Domestic dry whey varies by
manufacturer. Contacts report strong demand for loads from some manufacturers
or loads which meet certain stringent end user requirements, but say interest
is lighter for loads that are more interchangeable. Export demand for dry whey
is unchanged this week. Spot inventories reflect demand, as some manufacturers
have plenty of spot loads available, while inventories are tighter for loads of
dry whey with stronger demand. Cheesemakers continue to run busy production
schedules, but liquid whey is primarily going towards production of higher whey
protein concentrates, as markets remain bullish for these products. Dry whey
production is limited overall but is unchanged from recent weeks. Animal feed
whey production is very light and markets remain quiet. Demand is light and
inventories are tight. Prices for animal feed whey are unchanged this week.
