Major Winter Storm, Blizzard This Weekend

Intense, heavy snow will fall from Montana to Michigan with strong winds creating blizzard conditions. Thunderstorms across the Mississippi Valley on Sunday. Cold air will follow.

A storm system continues to move through the Great Lakes and into the Northeast on Friday with a mix of rain and snow and strong winds. Additional snow is falling across Montana and into South Dakota. That is the lead pulse of a major winter storm moving into the Pacific Northwest. That system will become a major winter storm over the weekend as it moves across the northern tier of the country. A band of intense, heavy snow will fall from Montana to Michigan while strong winds will create blizzard conditions in most of these areas. The cold front to the system will produce a line of strong-to-severe thunderstorms across the Mississippi Valley on Sunday, with all activity switching eastward on Monday. A burst of very cold air will follow in behind the front going into early next week.
