Arthur Coming Ashore, Severe Weather Threats Shifting into Thursday
Tropical Storm Arthur makes landfall in Louisiana; severe storms threaten the South and Midwest.
The first tropical storm of the 2026 season, Arthur, has formed off the Texas coastline Wednesday afternoon. Its name will be brief as it will come ashore over southwestern Louisiana Wednesday evening, but it will bring areas of heavy rain to the Gulf Coast for Thursday and the Southeast on Friday. Farther north, a severe cluster of storms continues to move across Illinois and into Indiana at midday. Though much of the severity of this cluster is expected to diminish this afternoon, another round of severe thunderstorms is looking likely from Missouri into Indiana with additional thunderstorms that could be severe across the Great Lakes as well. This system will shift to the Northeast for Thursday, but thunderstorms will continue across the South and Southeast along the front. In the cooler air that follows, additional showers and some thunderstorms will pop up in areas of the Plains and Midwest.
