Winds and Snow Ease

Drier and calmer weather will return today behind the departing storm system, with snow lingering for Michigan. A round of light snow will push across the territory late overnight.

General Overview: SNOW AND WINDS LINGER ACROSS THE NORTHEAST TODAY. ANOTHER WINTER SYSTEM BRINGS SNOW ACROSS THE NORTHERN TIER THROUGH THE MIDWEEK. TEMPERATURES TO WARM SIGNIFICANTLY ACROSS THE WESTERN U.S.

EAST:  Conditions ease across much of the Eastern US today and through the week behind the departing winter system. Areas of snow and gusty winds will remain possible across the Northeast, however. Mid this week, another low-pressure will move across Ontario, bringing snow showers across the Great Lakes and Northeast. As the system moves out, somewhat drier weather will be seen across the region, although additional periods of light rain/snow will remain possible for the Great Lakes and Northeast.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Below average temperatures across most of the region, especially in the Northeast and Great Lakes.

-Days 4-6: Temperatures begin to moderate, with near to slightly above average readings for most areas.

-Days 7-10: Warming trend continues, with above average temperatures spreading across much of the region.

CENTRAL:  A passing area of low-pressure will give way to snow showers through the middle of the week across the Midwest as it passes to the north, with mostly dry weather being seen elsewhere. High-pressure will then promote generally dry weather conditions across the majority of the Central US through the remainder of the week. A few passing area of low-pressure may give way to periods of rain and snow across the northern fringes of ND/MN/WI.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Well below average temperatures across the northern half of the region, near average in the south.

-Days 4-6: Temperatures begin to moderate, with a warming trend starting in the west.

-Days 7-10: Above average temperatures spread across most of the region, especially in the Plains states.

WEST:  High pressure will dominate the region, bringing dry conditions to most areas. Multiple periods of rain and elevated snow showers will remain possible across the Pacific Northwest, pushing into the Northern Rockies at times. This pattern will likely persist through to this weekend.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Near to slightly above average temperatures for most areas.

-Days 4-6: Warming trend begins, with temperatures climbing to well above average across much of the region.

-Days 7-10: Continued well above average temperatures, especially in the Southwest and Rockies.

TROPICAL: No tropical cyclone activity is expected during the next 7 days.
