White House: Ukraine Peace Talks “Highly Productive”
SECAUCUS, NJ (DTN) – Ukraine has begun negotiating an end to its war with Russia under U.S.-brokered talks that have been highly productive, the White House announced on Sunday (11/23).
U.S. and Ukraine representatives met in Geneva this weekend for the discussions centered on a U.S. peace proposal, according to a White House statement.
“The talks were constructive, focused, and respectful, underscoring the shared commitment to achieving a just and lasting peace,” the statement noted. “Both sides agreed the consultations were highly productive.”
According to analysts, an end to the Ukraine conflict would ease any remaining geopolitical tensions in the oil market, which has experienced relatively little global risks since the Israel-Hamas peace agreement concluded in October.
A settlement of the conflict would also likely take sanctions off Russian oil, allowing it to legitimately trade in international markets. The U.S. Department of the Treasury imposed sanctions on Russian energy firms Rosneft and Lukoil on October 22, forbidding any legal trade of their oil.
