Weather Pattern Getting More Active This Week
The weather pattern is opening up and many disturbances and systems will be moving through the country this week. The biggest one will move from the Southern Plains through the Mid-Atlantic this weekend.
In the Midwest, some snow fell across the region over the weekend, but many areas stayed dry. A couple of smaller systems will bring some streaks of precipitation this week, but nothing heavy is forecast. A system will move across the Ohio Valley this weekend and could bring some more widespread and heavier rainfall to the region. Some snow will be possible on the northern side of the system as well.
In the Northern Plains, spotty showers continued over the weekend, with more concentrated showers in Montana. That continues on Monday, but the threat for any other moderate or heavy precipitation is very low this week.
In the Central and Southern Plains, a few spotty showers fell over the weekend, but most areas stayed dry. Drought continues to expand. There will be several systems moving through this week, but with limited precipitation. A bigger storm is forecast to move across the southern half of the region this weekend, and could bring some more widespread rainfall, however.
In the Delta, it was dry over the weekend. Drought is still a large issue in the region, but there will be multiple chances at rainfall this week. Heavy amounts are not forecast until this weekend though, when a larger system should move through. That should help the drought situation.
In the Southeast, it was dry over the weekend. A front will move through on Wednesday with scattered showers, but heavy amounts are not forecast. Areas in drought could get worse. However, a larger system will move through this weekend and bring more widespread and potentially heavier rainfall, perhaps with some severe thunderstorms.
In the Western U.S., some showers went through over the weekend, particularly in the Northwest. Multiple disturbances and systems will move through this week and bring scattered showers to much of the region. The Southwest again will get limited precipitation and drought there is the most concerning. A larger system is forecast for the weekend though, that may bring the precipitation the region needs.
