Warm Trend Continues

Above average temperatures continue today with anomalies up to 10-18 degrees above normal forecast.

General Overview: ACTIVE WEATHER PATTERN BRINGS RAIN, SNOW, AND SEVERE STORMS TO MUCH OF THE NATION OVER THE NEXT SEVERAL DAYS. TEMPERATURE SWINGS EXPECTED AS COLD FRONTS PUSH THROUGH.

EAST:  A low pressure system will bring widespread rain and thunderstorms to the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic regions through Friday. Some storms could be severe with damaging winds and hail possible. Heavy rainfall may lead to localized flooding. As the system moves northeast, rain will change to snow for parts of the Great Lakes and interior Northeast by Saturday. Cold air will filter in behind the front, bringing below average temperatures to much of the region early next week.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Near to slightly above average for most areas
-Days 4-6: Below average temperatures spread across the region
-Days 7-10: Warming trend begins, with above average temperatures returning to the Southeast

CENTRAL:  An active weather pattern will bring multiple rounds of precipitation to the region. Rain and thunderstorms are likely across the southern Plains and lower Mississippi Valley through Friday, with some storms potentially becoming severe. As colder air moves in, rain will change to snow across parts of the northern Plains and upper Midwest over the weekend. Accumulating snow is possible in these areas. Temperature swings are expected as cold fronts move through the region.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Above average for most areas, especially the Plains
-Days 4-6: Below average temperatures spread across the northern tier
-Days 7-10: Warming trend returns, with above average temperatures across much of the region

WEST:  A series of storm systems will bring periods of rain and mountain snow to the Pacific Northwest and northern Rockies over the next several days. Heavy snow is possible at higher elevations. The Southwest will remain mostly dry and mild. A cooling trend is expected early next week as a cold front pushes into the region.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Above average for most areas, especially the Southwest
-Days 4-6: Cooling trend begins, with near average temperatures returning
-Days 7-10: Below average temperatures spread across much of the region

TROPICAL: No tropical cyclone activity is expected during the next 7 days.
