Northern Lake-Effect Snow

Drier conditions dominate for most, with ongoing lake-effect snow across Michigan continuing throughout the day.

General Overview: ACTIVE WEATHER PATTERN BRINGS RAIN, SNOW, AND THUNDERSTORMS TO MUCH OF THE COUNTRY OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS. FREEZING RAIN THREAT IN PARTS OF THE MIDWEST. TEMPERATURES WELL ABOVE AVERAGE IN THE SOUTHWEST.

EAST:  A low pressure system will bring rain and thunderstorms to much of the Southeast on Thursday and Friday. Some snow is possible in the Northeast and Great Lakes region. By Saturday, high pressure builds in, bringing drier conditions. Another system approaches late in the weekend, with rain returning to the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Below average in the Northeast, near average in the Southeast
-Days 4-6: Warming trend, with above average temperatures spreading across the region
-Days 7-10: Continued above average temperatures for most areas

CENTRAL:  A complex weather pattern will bring a variety of precipitation types to the region. Rain and thunderstorms are likely in the southern Plains, while snow is expected in the northern Plains. There is a risk of freezing rain in parts of the Midwest, particularly on Wednesday and Thursday. By the weekend, drier conditions prevail as high pressure builds in.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Below average in the north, above average in the south
-Days 4-6: Warming trend, with above average temperatures spreading northward
-Days 7-10: Continued above average temperatures for most areas, especially in the Plains

WEST:  A series of storm systems will bring rain and mountain snow to the Pacific Northwest and northern Rockies over the next few days. The Southwest will remain dry and unseasonably warm. By the weekend, precipitation chances increase for California and the Great Basin.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Well above average in the Southwest, near average elsewhere
-Days 4-6: Continued above average in the Southwest, cooling trend in the Northwest
-Days 7-10: Above average temperatures persist in the Southwest, near average elsewhere

TROPICAL: No tropical cyclone activity is expected during the next 7 days.
