South Central Highlights

Mostly dry

Dry Conditions are expected again today with a few showers possible to the east.

General Overview: ACTIVE WEATHER PATTERN BRINGS RAIN, SNOW, AND SEVERE STORMS TO MUCH OF THE NATION OVER THE NEXT FEW DAYS. FREEZING RAIN THREAT IN THE NORTHEAST AND UPPER MIDWEST. ABOVE AVERAGE TEMPERATURES FOR MOST OF THE COUNTRY.

EAST:  A complex storm system will bring a variety of precipitation types to the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. Freezing rain is expected across portions of New England and the interior Northeast, potentially leading to hazardous travel conditions and power outages. Rain will be prevalent along the coast, with a transition to snow in northern areas. As the system progresses, there’s a risk of severe thunderstorms developing in the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic states.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Above average temperatures, particularly in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast, with anomalies of 6-12°F above normal.

-Days 4-6: Continued above average temperatures, though slightly moderating. Northeast sees a cooling trend.

-Days 7-10: Temperatures begin to normalize, with some areas returning to near average by the end of the period.

CENTRAL:  The Central U.S. will experience a dynamic weather pattern with multiple systems moving through. Snow is likely across the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest, while rain and thunderstorms are expected in the Southern Plains and Midwest. There’s a potential for severe weather in parts of the Midwest and Ohio Valley as warm, moist air clashes with cooler air to the north. Flooding could become a concern in areas receiving repeated rounds of heavy rainfall.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Significantly above average temperatures, with anomalies of 12°F or more above normal in some areas.

-Days 4-6: Temperatures remain above average but begin to moderate as cooler air moves in from the northwest.

-Days 7-10: A cooling trend continues, with temperatures returning closer to seasonal norms by the end of the period.

WEST:  The Western U.S. will see a mix of weather conditions. The Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies can expect periods of rain and mountain snow. The Southwest will remain largely dry, but cooler air will filter into the region as the week progresses. There’s a potential for critical fire weather conditions in parts of the Southwest due to dry conditions and gusty winds.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Above average temperatures for much of the region, particularly in the interior West.

-Days 4-6: Cooling trend begins, with temperatures dropping closer to seasonal norms.

-Days 7-10: Temperatures continue to cool, with some areas potentially seeing below average temperatures by the end of the period.

TROPICAL: No tropical cyclone activity is expected in the Atlantic or Eastern Pacific basins over the next 7 days.
