Michigan Snow Today

Dry conditions remain dominant throughout the day for most, however, continuing snow remains likely across portions of Northern Michigan.

General Overview: MAJOR WINTER STORM TO IMPACT NORTHEAST WITH HEAVY SNOW AND FREEZING RAIN. SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS POSSIBLE IN SOUTHEAST. CRITICAL FIRE WEATHER IN SOUTHWEST.

EAST:  A powerful winter storm system will bring significant impacts to the Northeast over the next few days. Heavy snow is expected across much of the Great Lakes region and interior Northeast, with accumulations of 6-12 inches or more possible in some areas. Freezing rain is also a concern, especially from Pennsylvania into southern New England, which could lead to dangerous travel conditions and power outages. Further south, severe thunderstorms are possible across parts of the Southeast, with damaging winds and isolated tornadoes the main threats.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Much above normal temperatures across the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, with anomalies of 6-12°F above average. Below normal temperatures in the Northeast.

-Days 4-6: Cooling trend for most areas, with near normal to slightly below normal temperatures expected.

-Days 7-10: Gradual warming trend, with above normal temperatures returning to much of the region by day 10.

CENTRAL:  A complex weather pattern will bring a variety of hazards to the Central U.S. over the next few days. Snow and mixed precipitation is likely across parts of the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest. Further south, there is a risk of severe thunderstorms in the lower Mississippi Valley. Critical fire weather conditions are expected in parts of the Southwest, particularly in eastern New Mexico.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Much above normal temperatures across the Southern Plains, with anomalies of 6-12°F above average. Below normal temperatures in the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest.

-Days 7-10: Gradual warming trend, with above normal temperatures returning to much of the region by day 10, especially in the Southern Plains.

WEST:  High pressure will dominate the weather pattern across much of the West over the next few days, leading to generally dry conditions. However, critical fire weather conditions are expected in parts of the Southwest, particularly in eastern New Mexico. A series of weak systems may bring some light precipitation to the Pacific Northwest at times.
