Heat Returns

Temps near the Canadian border return to above normal while areas further south continue to be well above normal

General Overview: ACTIVE WEATHER PATTERN BRINGS RAIN AND SNOW TO THE NORTHERN TIER THROUGH THIS WEEK, WITH RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS RETURNING TO PARTS OF THE CENTRAL/EASTERN US LATE THIS WEEK. TEMPERATURES WILL BE WELL ABOVE AVERAGE ACROSS MUCH OF THE CENTRAL AND SOUTHERN U.S.

EAST:  A cold front will sweep through the region today, bringing rain showers across the Atlantic coastal states, with light snow lingering across parts of the Northeast. Through the mid to late week, a series of clipper systems will bring precipitation chances across much of the Eastern US. The northern tier will likely see mixed precipitation with snow, rain, and light freezing rain possible. Further south, rain showers are likely along passing fronts, with a severe potential possible across parts of the Ohio Valley and into the Mid-Atlantic on Thursday.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Near normal to slightly above average temperatures, especially in the Southeast.

-Days 4-6: Cooling trend with temperatures falling to near or below average.

-Days 7-10: Gradual warming trend with temperatures returning to above average by the end of the period.

CENTRAL:  Generally dry weather conditions will be seen across much of the Central US throughout the week as high-pressure deters any major precipitation. For parts of the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest, a series of clipper systems will bring repeating chances for  a mix of rain and snow Tuesday and through the late week. Chances for rain and possibly thunderstorms could push into the Central Plains and parts of the Mississippi River Valley Thursday and into Friday. Dry weather is expected for all areas this weekend.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Significantly above average temperatures, particularly in the Plains.

-Days 4-6: Continued above average temperatures, but not as extreme as the first few days.

-Days 7-10: Temperatures remain above average but begin to moderate towards the end of the period.

WEST:  Dry weather will be seen across much of the Western US today. A series of storm systems will bring rain and mountain snow to the Northwest and Northern Rockies through the middle of the week, with dry conditions expected elsewhere. Mostly dry weather will then return across all areas late this week and into this weekend.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Near to slightly below average temperatures in the Northwest, above average in the Southwest.

-Days 4-6: Warming trend with temperatures climbing above average across most of the region.

-Days 7-10: Continued above average temperatures, especially in the interior West.

TROPICAL: No tropical cyclone activity is expected during the next 7 days.
