EIA: U.S. Diesel Up 28.9cts on Week, Ends 3-Week Slide

DAVENPORT, FL (DTN) – The U.S. Energy Information Administration reported Tuesday (5/5) that retail diesel prices rebounded during the week ended May 4, with the national average rising 28.9cts to $5.640 gallon, snapping a three-week decline.

Compared with the same time last year, diesel nationwide was up $2.143 gallon on average.

East Coast diesel prices rose 7.9cts to $5.504 gallon, on the week ended May 4. Compared with the same time last year, this PADD 1 region showed a $1.937 gallon increase.

New England diesel prices increased 2.9cts to $5.863 gallon. This PADD 1A region climbed $1.968 versus the same period last year.

The Central Atlantic witnessed a 3cts increase on the week. Prices in the PADD 1B region averaged $5.873 gallon, rising $2.077 compared with the previous year.

Diesel prices in the Lower Atlantic averaged $5.331 gallon. This PADD 1C region reflects a 10.2cts increase on the week and a $1.883 gallon rise from the same time last year.

In the Midwest, diesel prices surged 61.1cts on the week. The PADD 2 region averaged $5.742 gallon, which was $2.310 gallon higher than levels seen at the same time last year.

On the Gulf Coast, diesel rose 16.6cts on the week to $5.178 gallon. Compared with the prior year, prices in PADD 3 were up $2.004 gallon.

Rocky Mountain diesel saw a 24.7cts increase on the week to $5.517 gallon. The PADD 4 region posted a $2.057 gallon increase year-over- year.

West Coast diesel prices rose 10.1cts on the week to average $6.631 gallon. Compared with the previous year, the PADD 5 region was up $2.427 gallon.

West Coast less California diesel climbed 7.4cts on a weekly basis to $6.000 gallon. This represented a $2.250 gallon increase from the same time last year.

California diesel itself rose 13.2cts on the week to $7.360 gallon. Prices in the state remain the highest in the nation, sitting at $2.632 gallon above levels seen at the same time last year.
