DTN Weekly Average DDG Price Lower Again

MINNEAPOLIS (DTN) — The average DTN spot price for domestic distillers dried grains (DDG) from 33 locations reporting for the week ended May 28 was $182 per ton on average, down $3 versus one week ago. One merchandiser told DTN, “Shutdown season is over; prices are going down!”

DDG prices were lower on average for the week, while cash corn was lower and soybean meal prices were higher versus one week ago, up $5.70 per ton. As for cash corn, the DTN National Average Corn Index was down 5 cents per bushel versus one week ago.

Based on the average of prices collected by DTN, the value of DDG relative to corn for the week ended May 28 was 1.118%. The value of DDG relative to soybean meal was 54.47% and the cost per unit of protein for DDG was $6.74 compared to the cost per unit of protein for soybean meal at $7.03.

U.S. Grains and Bioproducts Council, in its weekly distillers dried grains with solubles (DDGS) export market prices report, showed these June prices as of May 28: CIF NOLA barge price was up $2 at $254 metric ton (mt) versus on week ago; FOB vessel Gulf price was down $5 at $262 mt; rail delivered PNW was up $6 at $278; and rail delivered to California was down $2 at $272 mt.

Ethanol production in the United States averaged 1.089 million barrels per day (bpd) in the week ended May 22, according to the Energy Information Administration. That is down 22,000 bpd week-on-week and 33,000 bpd, or 3%, higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 1.075 million bpd was 49,000 bpd above the same four weeks last year. Midwest ethanol production averaged 1.035 million bpd, down 21,000 bpd week-on-week and 36,000 bpd, or 3.5%, higher than in the same week last year. Four-week average output at 1.018 million bpd was 48,000 bpd above the same four weeks last year.
