Dry Conditions Today

Dry conditions are expected across the region today.

General Overview: AFTER A RELATIVELY QUIET START, THE PATTERN TURNS MORE ACTIVE MID TO LATE NEXT WEEK WITH SNOW TO THE WEST AND NORTH, RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS TO THE CENTRAL AND EASTERN US, WITH POTENTIAL SEVERE WEATHER IN THE SOUTHEAST. TEMPERATURES WILL VARY SIGNIFICANTLY ACROSS THE COUNTRY.

EAST: Quieter weather will prevail into early next week. A low pressure system will move through the region by the mid-week, bringing rain and thunderstorms to much of the area. There is a risk of severe thunderstorms in parts of the Southeast. As the system progresses, colder air will filter in behind it, potentially changing precipitation to snow in parts of the Northeast and Great Lakes region. Windy conditions are expected as the system moves through.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Below average temperatures in the Northeast and Great Lakes, near average in the Southeast.

-Days 4-6: Warming trend with above average temperatures spreading across most of the region.

-Days 7-10: Continued above average temperatures, especially in the Mid-Atlantic and Southeast.

CENTRAL: Quieter weather will prevail into early next week. The pattern turns more active mid to late week. Snow is likely in the northern Plains and parts of the Midwest, while rain and thunderstorms are expected further south. There is a potential for severe weather in the southern Plains. As the system moves through, colder air will filter in from the north, potentially changing rain to snow in some areas.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Below average temperatures in the northern Plains and Upper Midwest, near to slightly above average in the southern Plains.

-Days 4-6: Warming trend with above average temperatures spreading across most of the region, especially in the Plains.

-Days 7-10: Continued above average temperatures across much of the area, with the warmest anomalies in the Plains.

WEST: The period will start out quieter, though there remains potential for critical fire weather conditions in parts of the central and southern Plains. An active weather pattern will return by the middle to later portions of next week. Heavy snow is expected in the mountains, while lower elevations will see a mix of rain and snow. Windy conditions are likely throughout the period.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Below average temperatures across much of the region, especially in the Northwest and Rockies.

-Days 4-6: Gradual warming trend, with temperatures returning to near average in many areas.

-Days 7-10: Continued warming, with above average temperatures spreading across much of the Southwest and southern Rockies.
