South Central Highlights

Dry and Hot End to Weekend

Another dry and exceptionally warm day anticipated for the region.

General Overview: ACTIVE WEATHER PATTERN BRINGS WINTRY PRECIPITATION ACROSS THE NORTHERN TIER, WITH RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS ACROSS PARTS OF THE CENTRAL/EASTERN US. COLD FRONT SWEEPS ACROSS THE COUNTRY, BRINGING TEMPERATURE SWINGS AND PRECIPITATION.

EAST:  A complex weather system will impact the eastern United States today and tomorrow. Today, low-pressure will push across the Eastern US, giving way to snow showers across the Northeast and rain and thunderstorms across the Mid-Atlantic and Ohio Valley. As the system pushes offshore, snow showers will linger across the Northeast into the early work week. A few rain showers will develop across parts of the Southeast on Tuesday, with another area of low-pressure bringing rain and snow, and possibly strong winds, across parts of the Great Lakes and Northeast on Wednesday and Thursday. Further south, rain and thunderstorms will be seen across the Mid-Atlantic and Ohio Valley.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Near normal to slightly below normal temperatures.

-Days 4-6: Temperatures trending below normal, especially in the Northeast.

-Days 7-10: Gradual warming trend, with temperatures returning to near or slightly above normal.

CENTRAL:  Generally dry weather will be seen across the majority of the Central US throughout this week as a series of high-pressure centers affect the region. Any precipitation will be pushed further north to the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest, which will experience periods of rain and snow as a series of clipper systems move through. Additionally, a cold front today will give way to rain and thunderstorms, some strong to severe, across parts of Illinois.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Above normal temperatures, especially in the Southern Plains.

-Days 4-6: Cooling trend with temperatures dropping to near or below normal.

-Days 7-10: Temperatures remaining near to slightly above normal for most areas.

WEST:  Mostly dry weather will be seen today and tomorrow across the Western US as high-pressure affects the region. Additional chances for rain and mountain snow will be seen across the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies mid to late this week as multiple systems push across the region. Further south, dry conditions will continue as high-pressure lingers.

Temperature Anomalies:

-Days 1-3: Above normal temperatures for most areas, especially in the interior West.

-Days 4-6: Continued above normal temperatures, with the warmest anomalies in the Southwest.

-Days 7-10: Slight cooling trend, but temperatures generally remaining above normal.

TROPICAL: No tropical cyclone activity is expected during the next 7 days in the Atlantic, Caribbean, or Gulf of Mexico.
