CattleLink Market View
Live cattle: Last week, the live cattle complex chopped merely sideways, hoping that some essence of fundamental support would develop. By Friday’s end, some light support did surface, as traders were able to keep the cash market steady. Southern live cattle traded at $235, and Northern dressed cattle traded at $372 — both of which were steady with a week ago.
Feeder cattle: The feeder cattle complex continues to track closely to the live cattle complex, as traders don’t want to move opposite of the market right now. But stronger feeder cattle demand was seen last week in sale barns, as turnout season to grass is right around the corner.
Lean hogs: The lean hog complex endured immense pressure last week, as the market broke sharply lower once again, as pork demand remains spotty.
Corn: May corn finished down 1 1/2 cents on a volatile week before falling 6 cents to finish at $4.59 1/2 on fund-selling as war issues eased.
Soymeal: May soymeal rose $5.30 last week before setting back $1.40 Monday to end the day at $326.60.
