CattleLink Market View

Live cattle: Last week, the live cattle complex was pressured by the uncertainty of whether labor union members would strike at the JBS plant in Colorado. Later in the week, that negatively affected the market’s fundamentals, as the fed cash cattle market traded $8 lower in the North and $3 to $4 lower in the South.

Feeder cattle: The feeder cattle complex endured the same pressure last week as the live cattle market did, as traders don’t feel comfortable advancing the feeder cattle contracts without the live cattle market support right now.

Lean hogs: Throughout last week’s trade, the lean hog contracts trailed mostly lower. The market was pushed lower by steep technical pressure, and the market’s fundamentals couldn’t lend enough support, as demand was mixed.

Corn: May corn rose 6 1/2 cents last week before plunging 13 1/4 on Monday, pressured by big fund selling to close at $4.54.

Soymeal: May soymeal rose $5.50 last week and then plunged $10.50 on Monday to settle at $312.20.
