Below Normal Temperatures Return
Temperatures will be 5-10 degrees below normal today.
General Overview: A STRONG COASTAL LOW PRESSURE SYSTEM WILL BRING WIDESPREAD SNOW TO THE NORTHEAST, WHILE THUNDERSTORMS EXIT THE SOUTHEAST. TEMPERATURES WILL FLUCTUATE ACROSS THE COUNTRY WITH COLD AIR IN THE NORTH AND WARMTH IN THE SOUTH.
EAST: A low pressure system will move up the East Coast, bringing some rain and heavy snow to the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic regions. A broad area of heavy snow will be possible along the Eastern Seaboard with this system, along with strong winds and blizzard conditions along the coast. A couple more systems will track through the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast during the week, bringing additional chances for rain and mixed wintry precipitation. The Southeast will face a risk for thunderstorms, with the greatest threat on Thursday. Heavy rainfall may lead to localized flooding in parts of the region.
Temperature Anomalies:
-Days 1-3: Below average temperatures in the Northeast and Mid-Atlantic, above average in the Southeast.
-Days 4-6: Warming trend begins, with temperatures rising to above average across most of the region.
-Days 7-10: Continued above average temperatures, especially in the Southeast.
CENTRAL: A couple rounds of lighter snow will impact the region in the coming days. The Central Plains will experience a mix of rain and snow, with a transition to all snow as colder air moves in. As the system moves eastward, it will bring a chance of severe thunderstorms to parts of the lower Mississippi Valley and Ohio Valley.
Temperature Anomalies:
-Days 1-3: Well below average temperatures in the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest, near average elsewhere.
-Days 4-6: Gradual warming trend, with temperatures rising to near or slightly above average.
-Days 7-10: Temperatures continue to warm, becoming above average across much of the region.
WEST: A series of Pacific storm systems will bring rain and mountain snow to the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies. The Southwest will remain largely dry and mild. As the week progresses, a ridge of high pressure will build over the region, leading to warmer and drier conditions for most areas.
