Above Seasonal Temperatures Persist
Temperatures will be 10-20 degrees above average today.
General Overview: A SERIES OF CLIPPER SYSTEMS WILL BRING MULTIPLE PERIODS OF LIGHT SNOW AND RAIN TO NORTHERN TIER STATES. LATE IN THE PERIOD, RAINFALL AND THUNDERSTORMS MAY RETURN ACROSS THE SOUTHEAST.
EAST: A series of clipper systems will bring periods of rain and snow across the Great Lakes and Northeast through the remainder of the week, with drier conditions likely further south. Snow accumulations will remain rather light with each passing system. This pattern may persist through the weekend and into early next week as well, although rain showers and a risk of thunderstorms could push further south into the Southeast.
Temperature Anomalies:
-Days 1-3: Much colder than average across the Northeast and Great Lakes, with temperatures 6-12°F below normal. Near normal temperatures for the Southeast.
-Days 4-6: Temperatures moderate and return closer to seasonal averages for most of the East.
-Days 7-10: Warmer than average conditions develop, with temperatures 3-6°F above normal for much of the region.
CENTRAL: Across the majority of the Central US, strong high-pressure will promote generally dry weather conditions through the remainder of the week and this weekend. Snow showers will exit eastward across the Upper Midwest today, with disorganized, light rain/snow showers remaining possible at times across far northern areas into this weekend. A more organized system may bring returning chances for rain/snow across the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest Sunday and into early next week.
Temperature Anomalies:
-Days 1-3: Much colder than average across the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest, with temperatures 6-12°F below normal. Near to slightly above normal for the Southern Plains.
-Days 4-6: Temperatures moderate for most areas, returning closer to seasonal averages.
-Days 7-10: Warmer than average conditions develop, with temperatures 6-12°F above normal, especially for the Northern and Central Plains.
WEST: A series of Pacific storm systems will bring periods of rain and mountain snow to the Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies over the next several days. Heavy snow is likely in the higher elevations, with rain confined mostly to coastal areas and lower elevations. The Southwest will remain largely dry and mild, with above-average temperatures persisting. There is an elevated fire weather risk for parts of the Southwest due to the dry, and breezy conditions.
Temperature Anomalies:
-Days 1-3: Much warmer than average across the Southwest and Southern Rockies, with temperatures 6-12°F above normal. Near normal for the Pacific Northwest.
-Days 4-6: Warm anomalies expand to cover most of the West, with temperatures 6-12°F above normal for many areas.
-Days 7-10: Continued above-average temperatures for much of the region, with the warmest anomalies (up to 12°F above normal) focused on the Great Basin and Rockies.
TROPICAL: No tropical cyclone activity is expected in the Atlantic or Eastern Pacific basins over the next 7 days.
