Mid-Atlantic Energy Highlights

Above Average Temperatures Today

Temperatures remain 5-15 degrees above average across the region today.

General Overview: WINTER WEATHER ACROSS THE GREAT LAKES AND NORTHEAST WITH SNOW AND POTENTIAL FREEZING RAIN THROUGHTHE WORK WEEK. MIXED PRECIPITATION SPREADING ACROSS THE PACIFIC NORTHWEST AND NORTHERN ROCKIES. RAIN AND THUNDERSTORMS DEVELOPING ACROSS THE CENTRAL PLAINS AND SOUTH CENTRAL REGIONS BY MIDWEEK. ABOVE NORMAL TEMPERATURES DOMINATING MUCH OF THE NATION, PARTICULARLY ACROSS THE CENTRAL U.S.

EAST:
Today, mixed precipitation will linger across the Northeast before exiting. Thursday and into the weekend, a pair of low-pressure systems will track across the region, bringing precipitation to much of the Eastern US. Areas of rain and thunderstorms will likely become possible across the Deep to Mid south, with parts of the Great Lakes and Northeast seeing a wintry mix Friday and into the weekend. Conditions look to improve for most areas by the latter half of the weekend, with periods of snow lingering across the Northeast.

Temperature Anomalies:
-Days 1-3: Significantly above normal temperatures across the entire Eastern region, with anomalies of 6-12°F above normal, particularly in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast.
-Days 4-6: Continued above normal temperatures, though moderating slightly in the Northeast. The Mid-Atlantic and Southeast remain 6-10°F above normal.
-Days 7-10: Gradual cooling trend with temperatures returning closer to normal across most of the region, though still slightly above average in the Northeast.

CENTRAL:
Multiple weather systems will affect the Central U.S. over the next several days. Initially, high pressure will promote largely dry weather across the region. Tonight and Thursday, a developing low pressure system will bring rain and thunderstorms to parts of the South/Central Plains and Lower/Mid Mississippi Valley, with snow likely as it tracks into the Upper Midwest. Some thunderstorms could become strong across parts of the South Central region. Rain may linger across parts of the Lower/Mid Mississippi Valley through the end of the work week, with a drier pattern setting up through the weekend. The Northern Plains or Upper Midwest may still see periods of snow through the weekend, however.

Temperature Anomalies:
-Days 1-3: Widespread above normal temperatures, with anomalies of 8-12°F above normal across the Central and Northern Plains.
-Days 4-6: Continued well above normal temperatures, particularly across the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest where anomalies reach 10-15°F above normal.
-Days 7-10: Persistent above normal temperatures, especially across the Northern Plains and Upper Midwest, with anomalies of 6-12°F above normal.

WEST:
A series of Pacific systems will bring unsettled weather to the Western U.S. through the period. The Pacific Northwest and Northern Rockies will experience periods of mixed precipitation, with snow at higher elevations and rain in lower elevations. Mid to late this week, precipitation will spread into the Intermountain West and portions of the Southwest. Multiple areas of low pressure moving onshore will maintain precipitation chances across the Pacific Northwest and Northern California. The Southwest will see generally drier conditions through the weekend. High pressure systems over the Great Basin will provide breaks between systems, but overall an active pattern will persist across the northern tier of the West.

Temperature Anomalies:
-Days 1-3: Near to slightly above normal temperatures for most areas, with some cooler than normal readings in parts of California and the Southwest.
-Days 4-6: Warming trend with above normal temperatures spreading across the Northwest and Northern Rockies, while the Southwest remains near normal.
-Days 7-10: Continued above normal temperatures across the Northwest and Northern Rockies, with anomalies of 6-10°F above normal in Montana and Idaho.

TROPICAL:
No tropical cyclone activity is expected during the next 7 days in either the Atlantic or Eastern Pacific basins.
